My life has been hectic. Doing what? It’s a mystery. Maybe a list of accomplishments isn’t available, but I see a fun task finished every now and then, and it isn’t a myth. Look at this loomy hat fresh off the loom today.

Sorry for the gloomy pictures. That is a salmon color. Somehow the cellphone didn’t capture it properly. I knitted it on the Flexee loom. 80 pegs, so it should fit an adult. It was with mohair from the charity so it will go to the charity. The brim was a fold back on itself, then I did a couple rows of cable stitches. The rest just flat knit. I did this decrease method.

The difference is that after finishing the first batch of decreases, I move all the loops to remove the links of every other stitch so that in the end, I will have 40 pegs, and I do this whole decrease again. It is fun to do this decrease on the flexees.

Oh, another done thing without crossing off a list, I actually wrote more on my story. I haven’t done much writing in the last two CampNaNos. I sort of forgot to write and edit. I think I have been avoiding it because seeing the computer screen is difficult. Myopia with cataracts makes the reading of any kind painful. When I have to try too hard, I get gloomy, But, Yay! Today I wrote, and now I want to know what happens to my lost characters. I’m hoping they will become chummy with wild horses to pull their truck like a covered wagon. Covered will be necessary as it may soon get stormy.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “my.” Start your post with the word “My.” Bonus points if you end your post with “yours.” Enjoy!

Ode to Joy. This is often a beginners song in whatever instrument you are trying out. Here is one of my favorite recorder teachers teaching the classic. I am using this video to teach myself to play it on not only soprano but also alto and tenor. Both of the latter are much harder on my hands than the higher squeakier soprano.

Sarah Jeffery

I’ve always been interested in codes and other languages. Maybe the beginning code of my life was music. As a five-year-old, I can remember more of my music lessons than kindergarten or even first grade. Music code was followed by alphabets and Dick, Jane, and Sally. Not only did I learn that code, in the boring sense of black and white, but reading became one of my favorite things.

When I was little, I had a toy piano like Schroeder, with color coded music with keys that match the notes. Maybe that is why I see music and some odd things in colors. Smells have colors. Words have colors. My fingers on the piano keyboard make cartoons in my head. Okay, I never said I was totally sane.

Okay. Not Beethoven but cute, right?
Great for color-coded toy piano, not the best key for beginning recorder.

So sorry to have let my stream erode to elemental music but that is where my crazy ADD floats off to. I have overloaded on the code words when there were so many out there like these:

  • biodegradable.
  • photodetector.
  • electrodermal.
  • octodecillion.
  • moderatorship.
  • modernization.
  • modernisation.
  • photocathodes.

Just think of where I could have gone with photocathodes, whatever those are.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “luck.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Luck is what you make, right? The fires in the west and the floods in the east and the occasional tornado, not the kind of thing one can make for oneself, right? Those who live and those who die from these incidents are a flip of the coin or brought it on themselves?

Okay, the thought of what we all might have contributed to the laws and the global warming that might have contributed to the catastrophes, does occur. Yet the individual who lives an dies don’t seem to pull that all to themselves. Sure a person can make sure their home is protected as best they can to withstand the throws of nature. But who is to blame for the victim’s bad luck?

There are those who wear special hats or ribbons when they gamble or race. Is it their luck if they win? Is it bad luck if they didn’t wear the lucky pin and they lost?

Yes, I’m addressing this. If we catch COVID19 or Delta and we’ve done everything to prevent it, is it our bad luck? This has to do with neighbors and friends and family, too. Just as a person can pass by your house and recklessly toss a cigarette out the car window and catch your house on fire. Even though you have fireproofed your place it burns down. Luck? Blame? Maybe the worst is the anger that blame brings. The house is still on fire. The possible disease is attacking. Maybe it’s a waste of time and energy to call out the careless? They are probably rich and can get out of it anyway. Sure we hope there will be a way to recover physically and financially. And we have done everything in our power to stay safe and healthy. We’ve saved our pennies when we could. So it’s just bad luck?

I’m falling down a rabbit hole here. I’m not sure there is a wise person, guru, rabbit’s foot that can save this blog today.

Meanwhile, our day was hot, 96 with smoke and clouds making it sticky and awful. We’ve kept the fans going and kept hydrated. Tomorrow will be 100. If we are lucky we will get through as the next week shows 80s. Our pets lay around the floor and we check on them. We take siestas during the heat of the day and that helps a little. But I get grouchy after a hot nap.

All the while I am hearing this earworm.

Maybe I can get it out of my head.

Weezles and Heffalumps

No. I guess I was wrong. These guys are who I meant.

One wee mistake trying to stream my consciousness.

This is a weekly prompt that happens on the first day of the weekend. Just let the sweetness flow between the ears.

What you come up with may be bittersweet. Or look like you’ve been smoking that weed the kids, (babyboomers) have been talking about.

Sweeping my brain just makes me weep. Maybe if I’m lucky I can tweeze out a teeny-weeny cartoon or two. Alice knew.

Or an awful insect that swarmed my Zoom cereal.

Wait. Have I just streamed full circle? No that was weezle, oops, woozle, not weevil. But now I have

WEE!!!

Up in the sky, way over there,

Those thoughts that fly

When I need them most

Are having a hey day!

Down in that valley, yes, right here,

We try to carry on,

Spiriting up

Getting things done

Having down to Earth fun.

A lack of sleep night had me scurrying for words when talking to family. But I had my ups and downs in the day getting lots of recorder things done, piano practice, even scales with fingers running up and down the keyboard.

A couple boxes got unboxed. The first signs of the heat showed up. Though in comparison with those west of here our temps were down, I don’t think we got to the predicted 95. Not looking forward to the triples due tomorrow through Wednesday. Too hot to be productive when there is no AC. Well, we have fans and a little window AC. But not the whole house kind.

Keep cool everyone!

Thanks for the fun prompt, Linda G. Hill!

Het up on the hot day the German man

seinen Hut aufsetze,

or put on his hat.

Aber when the temperature hit triple digits, he hid in his hut.

Even the sombrero wearer next door knew when to give up and take a siesta.

That sums up the days here on the west coast. We didn't hit the triple but got mighty close. I didn't go outside. Even Kali chose the chair in line with the breeze from the fan.

On a hot day, we stayed cool!

Though I am still tired from my drive to Bend Friday, I still feel excited at driving on a road trip at any time.  From the time I got my license I became the family driver. My mother hated driving so anything that needed a driver, I was elected. Yay! Dad was a night worker/day sleeper so it was up to me. Not once did I grouse at the thought of running an errand. Mom even got me a job to drive a family to church on Sundays and so I got to keep that family’s car with privileges to light fun driving on Saturdays.

From age 16 on, I got to do a majority of the vacation driving. I remember very early one morning driving between Arizona and New Mexico. The sky was fantastic. There were lone clouds that were raining surrounded by blue skies. All the reds oranges and tans of the geology mixed with the gorgeous sunrise. Everyone in the car was asleep. I felt like I had just gone to Heaven it was so beautiful that this teen cried at the sight.

I remember driving in Oregon the first time and seeing the red ground. It was like crossing the border between California and Oregon separates the types of dirt. I was fascinated. It was only since living here in Oregon as an adult that I understand that feature. Oregon uses lava rock to keep the roads from icing over. It is far better a solution than using salt that deteriorates the roads and vehicles.

Another fun thing to learn as a teen was driving in Oregon, especially Portland, and Washington was scary. I was from Southern California, near Los Angeles. But these more northern cities had the worst drivers I had ever seen in my short life. By the way, I have driven in Portland as an adult and I haven’t changed my mind. Especially raining seasons. Goodness. Wet roads are dangerous, slow down! And this comes from someone my ex used to call Mario Andretti so this isn’t coming from a slow old lady! I do try to obey the laws but I do love a freeway that allows 75 MPH. I would love to drive an autobahn someday!

Now that I am healthier I would love more opportunities to drive. I am driven to travel!

Yarn is one of my favorite words. I love words that have multiple definitions. You all know how much I love knitting, loom knitting, and crocheting. Yarn can just be a soft skein. Or it can be something already made. A sock or a a new sweater. And then, if the item isn’t done well enough it can be torn apart and made into something else. What a wonderful substance it is!

But it is also the fun of a tale. Of a story untold made into something woven with layers of characters of development and world building. I like to call myself Dream Yarner as I love to weave with drifting between soft places to land.

I also think of timelines of real life touching my past and future and the full reality threaded together in a yarn that knits family and friends in my life and the softness of love.

Growth is complicated. Sometimes what appears as growth is a different point of view. And then there are the times you feel you will never grow again, and possibly regressing when later in hind sight you find those were your biggest growth spurts of all. On this very day, I think the later is what I hope for.

As I am in the David Tenet season of Doctor Who, I look to my left and see the two socks I told you about yesterday. I didn’t get to knit much today either. I had a job to do. If I am to make read-aloud or podcasts, I need the table in my bedroom clean and ready to go. Since my son moved in, all the stuff in my hobby room got moved out into the rest of the house and never landed very neatly—a moment. Also, to my left is my green tea. Let me take a sip before continuing.

It wasn’t just the fact of his moving in and losing a whole room to store my tools and supplies for my crazy times. It was pain. And fatigue. But I am feeling so much better now. Unfortunately, there is so much piled up all over that I need to straighten up, toss, or give away that I am somewhat overwhelmed. But today, I started tackling this monster.

Ah, and one would think with the amount of time I worked, the job would be done. Nope. The top layer of stuff was heavy winter stuff that needed to be put away for summer. That meant ordering big bins to stack in my tiny closet. That meant using smaller containers, for now, just to get the clothes and blankets out of the way. Then I started throwing things into a box to sort through later; heaps of electronic bits for computers past and present. Primarily things that probably don’t work. So once the box is filled, I will bring it to the living room to go through it from a comfortable sitting.

Tomorrow the table should be clear. That table won’t be the only place clearing. I plan to move my Paint by Diamond kit on the podcast table. That brings it off the dining table. That is part of another project. My brother and I will move the dining table closer to the kitchen. The piano will go with the light from the south sun where the table will have been. The armoire will take the place of the piano. I can’t wait! That and having new eyes, I will be able to see the notes on the music.

Anyway, I recorded this momentous occasion. I captured me talking about the pile and then took pictures of the progress. It always surprises me when cleaning, how you have to make a bigger mess to clean up a mess. My bed was piled high with the incoming summer clothes and I had to figure out where to put them all. As I lose weight some of the clothes call to me to dress up a bit. Positive process happening.
