Yay, Z!

I don’t know why this was a tough month. The challenge was extra challenging.

You would think the alphabet could be easy. It’s not been that hard in the past.

But so had Camp NaNo. You want to know how far I got on that goal? Zero. Zip.

Yep, once again editing, writing, and my podcast and piano goals got nothing but yawns. Yippee!

But… Yarn got a lot of attention. Many socks nearly jumped off the needles. I seem to have a lot of zest for knitting.

Oh, well. Zippity Do Dah!

YARN!

My favorite Y-word!

I think this is my favorite yarn that isn’t wool. But I am almost out of it. I think I will get to the heel before running out. Luckily I have two more skeins of it lined up. By the way, the needles are not my favorite. These are the Knitter’s Pride Royale 47″ US size 8. Though I like the feeling of the wooden needle, the medal tips and bottoms snag on the yarn. The worst part is the company thinks it had solved with the rotary ends that are supposed to make the cord unkink. But whatever the cord is made of makes them permanently curl and get in the way.
This is enough to make at least four pairs of slipper socks.
The heel is coming along nicely on these bamboo yarn socks. By the way, that’s the Fleegle heel. I shared the YouTube tutorial earlier. The yard is thin but strong. The needles are ChiaogooRed Lace Circulars, 40″ US size 2. The tiny yarn and needles hurt my hands after a while.
Of the cotton yarns I have worked with, this is the easiest. It feels almost like wool. It is fuzzy. But it is also the kind that easily separates into threads and can be hard to work. The Chiaogoo Red Lace Circulars make it quite simple. See how the red cable just lays there out of the way? 40″ of useful cable holding the work. US 8
This soft Merino superwash wool is fingering weight. It feels nice. It is just thin. The Chiaogoo Red Lace Circulars 40″ US 2 are perfect for the job, but working the thinner yarns with thinner needles is harder on the hands, so I don’t spend as much time on these. A few rows at a time and I got back to the thicker yarns and needles.
These are the hardest pair I’ve worked on. The needles are not only thin but short. I have to have four either HiyaHiya Sharp Fliers 8″ US 1 or short Chiaogoo Red Lace 9″ US 1. Both are sharp, and I’ve needed to get leather thimbles to save my fingers the holes and calluses. I’m nearing the toes. I think I won’t work with these again. These socks don’t fit anyone I know. I more or less planned these as an experiment. So they will probably end up in the charity bag. They’ll fit a child.
I saw this pattern advertised on Facebook. I loved the concept so much that I ordered it and pulled out my crochet hooks. As long as I keep my sessions short, I don’t find it too painful. This is a great way to use up all the little leftover yarns. I’ll feature this more as I have only finished about four baby turtle bellies. They are smaller than the palm of my hand. I can’t wait to finish this project. I think it will be so much fun!

I haven’t used a lot of Ys. I love that letter because I can think of YOU and YOURS. I can be positive with Yes, I can! There are so many more, but I still have to work with my other yarning: CampNaNo. I lowered my goal to 12,500 words on Reflexions. I need to write 400-500 words a day to reach that on the 30th. On to Yarning on YWriter7.

Yarn is fun whether telling or knitting/crocheting. My yarn telling is pretty well finished. If you take yWriter’s word for it I ended with 50,584. If you take Word’s word for it I ended with 51,336. The validating machine must be broken because neither amount sent me to the winners’ circle. I only need 50K darn it!  Maybe too many are hitting that validator at the same time, though I’ve never had this problem any of the 10-16 times I’ve finished novels on NaNo or CampNaNo. I wrote to the company to see what’s up but they say they don’t get back to you for 2 business days. Well, that takes me past the final date for this NaNo. Well, at least it took my fact page to the finality with the arrow in the target at 100, all the graphs stating I made it, so…I’m satisfied. I will try to write a bit more tomorrow and see if the machine is working.

Though I haven’t stopped knitting during this month, I have done far less than normal. I have a lot of stuffed bodies and body parts that need to be stuffed and sewn together. I finished several little baby hats that need those last bits sewn closed and labeled to go to the people who need them. I’ll try to post the pics as I finish a few. The leader of the Hugger Hats group told me to make more of the dolls as she has a doctor who wants to give them to stroke patients as they are helpful tactile comforts for them.

I’ve been happy with the story I was able to write this month and feel encouraged to get all the books in the series up and edited to the best of my abilities. As much as I read, I think I am feeling accomplished with my stories It feels different enough to not feel like the same ole story as what’s out there, yet the energy I feel as I read them make me want to read them again. Does that make sense? I’m not trying to brag. Not at all. I’m trying to review with the same kind of eye as when I read other books. I am so grateful to have these characters growing and dictating to my struggling fingers the pictures they give me. I hope as I edit the more poetic words or phrases will appear as I know that writing fast leave my vocabulary and grammar wanting.

Did anyone else do CampNaNo how’d it go for you? How did you like doing the A-to-Z Challenge? I will put my thoughts on that on tomorrows post? As I am picking up and looking around think of me as waving to all of you. What’s happening in your life while I was buried in wordage?

Well, the prompt word for #Stream of Consciousness Saturday was Yard. Yeah, I’m a day late. I was too tired to think about our yard. Even though it was sort of warm, finally, it was too windy and I was too tired to do much more than stand there as Kali did her OUTSIDE thing.

Did I mention I was tired? Yeah. Went to bed before I had the chance to write the blog. Oops! Didn’t wake up early either. Still kind of tired.

Wish there was a magical person with a magical lawnmower to mow that green stuff that is near the house. That might create a yard. Then another magical person to knock down most of the foxtails and other yellow stuff before the fire season starts. Yeah, that’s the day after the freezing temps it will be 110 in the shade–Oooo–grumpy, too!

So, you can see, maybe why I wasn’t into this prompt. Broken hubby, bro working 6 days a week, me on the tail end of fibro-flare facing the word, YARD. Even if it weren’t the prompt word of the day it looms over me with a vengeance.

Maybe I could have enjoyed the thought that a yard is really 3 feet! Broken down even smaller is 36 inches. I tried this last year. I’d go out and work on the “yard” a postage size part of the ground at a time. Never got past the front porch and the back porch before the heat robbed me of energy and fibro killed me. But the postage stamp places still look better a year later, so I say if a yard is as good as a mile, an inch is as good as a mile. And didn’t I move here for the sky anyway?

ANYWAY…

This is my contribution to the #AtoZChallenge a day late and many dollars short.

How does a free blog site work when everything is tied to dollars? How do you create content without using proprietary themes when it seems even the colors and fonts are tied to upgrades for usage? Is it even possible? I hope to find out.
