Finishing Friday

I’ve made very little progress on the afghan. But I finally got ONE no show Sneaker socks finished. TaDa!!!

One no show Sneaker Sock done.
Many lessons learned.

Starting with cast on. I over did the Turkish cast-on. The toe ended squarish.

The arch needed a few more rows of ribbing.

The heel part has been tinked so many times I was worried the yarn was splitting. Right now I’m retinking the second sock. Here’s why:

The pattern confused me. The YouTube wasn’t clear enough. And it was confusing.

I finally got the shadow wrap. But the next part made me separate the socks. No more Two At A Time. But I only have one long ChiaoGoo Red-lace Circular Needle in size 1. So I put one sock on DPNs. I could fold them up and keep the sock from fraying or straying.

That left one sock on the ChiaoGoos. That made the rest a little easier to understand. I’m still not sure I understand the shaping of the upper heel but it fits nicely.

The ribbing at the top of the sock was short and easy. But the cast offs the YouTube suggests makes no sense so I used my favorite one.

Here are the YouTube tutorials.

There are 4 parts in a knit-along situation.

The worst part is our Internet isn’t working properly. So watching anything streaming, even on my phone is painful. I had to miss my friends on Zoom today because of it. Ugh! They say it’ll be fixed by Sunday. I’m not holding my breath! Out here in the Oregon Outback it is a desert of everything.

Oh, well, back to tinking.

Tinking Tuesday

Remember all the projects I proudly displayed yesterday? I made progress in only one. I didn’t work on the hat. But the Afghan panel and socks required frogging and tinking.

The Afghan had a decreasing problem since I switched out the hook. The new one was smaller and crocheted tighter. Frog.

The sock? Well I followed the pattern as best I could as I didn’t want to stop our ER binge to watch a YouTube tutorial. Big mistake. The heel I made would have been too tight. Tinking back to before the heel. Now I’ll watch the tutorial carefully. Though frogging can be fun. Ripping (ribbit) out the stitches. Tinking is more work as you undo each stitch while maintaining the rest of the project. Sometimes it’s like following a maze. Ugh! And I’m not done so I better get back to it.

Making Monday

Beginning of the center panel of my Tunisian Crochet Afghan. Stitch markers on the bottom to mark every 10 stitches. Because Tunisian Crochet likes to curl I had to hold it flat with the DPNs and crochet hooks.
One of the side panels of the Tunisian Crochet Afghan. I’m aiming for 6′ long.
Yep, I started another hat. I found starting out on DPNs then transferred to the ChiaoGoo Red-lace Circular Needles – tip to tip 16.” Now that it’s all on the cables it’s easy to work in the round.
My no-show Sneaker Socks are coming along. Today I learned how to make Shadow Wraps. See this YouTube to learn how. I’ll let you know how well they fit later.

One panel of the Tunisian Crochet afghan after several froggings and recrocheting. It is now as long as my legs. I need to do another identical panel then a double wide of a different colorway between these black and ivory hombre. For those who want to learn Tunisian Crochet, here’s the one I learned
My no-show Sneaker socks are nearing the dreaded heel. The pattern calls for something called a shadow stitch instead of wrap and turn. I plan to run a safety line before starting. If I flub too badly I’ll tink back and do the Fleegle Heel. Again here’s the tutorial I’m following for these.

I don’t think I did the arch 1 by 1 ribbing long enough. But I’ve learned my Continental knitting makes that stitch a lot easier than English (right-handed) ribbing. After much practice I can switch off so neither hand gets too tired.

My next pair of socks will be a stab at Fishlip socks. I bought the pattern. It seems complicated but folks seem to swear by it.

Making Monday

Tunisian crochet Afghan growing.
Decided to make these socks into no show sneaker socks. The pattern calls for ribbing in the instep to help with fit.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sap/spa/asp/pas/PSA.” Use one, use them all, use them any way you’d like. Bonus points if you use them all. Enjoy!

PSA: This day has been dedicated to the following hat. Though I ran out of the colorway of the bottom of the hat, I think the one with brown still worked out. If you want details check out yesterday’s blog.

Finishing Friday

I started this hat a while back. ChiaoGoo Red-lace Circular Needles, US 8 9″ cord. I love this yarn. So soft. But…
This is all of this colorway left. So I’ll have to be creative.
But look what I got! A bundle of corded Tunisian crochet hooks. A book to get me started and two Red Heart Super Saver skeins to play with.
Between the book and the following YouTube I have the beginning of an afghan!

Made Them Monday

After many mistakes and tinking back to fix these are finally finished. There are a couple threads to hide but I’m proud of what I’ve learned making these shortie socks.

I followed the YouTube for the Fleegle Heel Toe-up Two At A Time Socks. I used ChiaoGoo Red-lace Circular Needles US 8. I started out on the 40″ cables. When it was time to bind off I found it easier to do one sock at a time putting the sock on 9″ corded needles. I’ll share the bind off YouTube, too.

Making Monday

Nearly finished witch hat for daughter’s wedding reception costume in October. Much more to add to costume.
Nearly finished shortie socks for friend.

I may or may not have the chance to blog for the next couple days. I’m trying to be rugged and go camping. Close to home and family ready to come get us if it goes weird, or I’m too tired. My inner kid is excited.

Making Monday

Didn’t go half as far today. Even at 11am it was too hot and humid. Tomorrow we need to walk far earlier or evening.

Instead, I thought I’d better capture the greenery while I can. We are green usually only early Spring. But here we are nearly July when yellow and hot dust is the norm for the desert Outback of Oregon.

Looking south. The hay barn has the first cutting of alfalfa.
Looking south-west.
The sagebrush is taller than me! But still green.
I don’t know if this is edible but it looks like wheat. All similar plants are green.
Looking northish. Just enjoying the green scenery.
Looking west towards Table Rock mountain. So green!
Another looking northish. Sky blue with green fields.
The yellow butterflies from the beginning of summer have faded away. Now we’re getting white ones. This one has spots and is showing off!
The science says this proves the high moisture in the air. But I’ll accept love and promise, too. But really, the humidity is part of why we had to cut the walk short.

So, I think I know what I want to wear for my daughter and her fiancé’s October costume wedding.  Crone witch! I can make my own hat and cape! The crone part is built in!🤪

So at the beginning of the weekend I was working with Scarlett Royal’s loomknit witch’s hat. But I learned there would be a lot of sewing.

I had socks on the Flexes so I transferred by way of a skinny set of ChiaoGoo Red-lace Circular Needles. I had started on the 12 peg  loom for the brim and the 36 peg for the hat. That was when I noticed I’d have a lot of sewing ahead.

In the past, I learned I could do a nice decrease using the Flexees. But for this witch hat I needed to get a good point. I didn’t feel I could figure that out. Here’s her YouTube if you want to try.

I have made a couple hats by her including a beret I was quite proud of. And I do love the picture of this hat.

I think this next one by PleasantSeas may do the trick. After tinking and frogging all weekend, I found and started working on it.

I read the pattern featured on the YouTube page. That I can do. I told myself. It starts similar to my Toe-up Two At A Time Socks. So I followed the pattern about 17 rows in. Then I noticed that it seemed the author got the numbering wrong. Once again, my tracking was off. Still I was liking how it was turning out.

Here’s what I should have done:

But here’s what I have at Row 17.

Yeah. I’m stuck with the Knitter’s Pride Royale circular needles. See how the cord coils up? Ugh! But all my other needles are in use.

Anyway, I think I’ll continue as I am going until the “wearable” part of the hat gets close. Then I’ll increase faster as PleasantSeas does. I think I want the point high or curly. We’ll see how that turns out.

Meanwhile, the socks I pulled off the Flexee looms, looks like this:

Two more inches before the Fleegle Heel. These would fit me right now. But these are for someone else.

Sadly, the Flexees are empty. Back to just needle knitting for now.

But now I need to drop the needles and hop on the stationary bike to see if I can make up the mile(s) we missed this morning.
