Sunday Funny

Well, deep, sweet, and cute.

I got to see some of my adult kids and had a dog for a bit. Weather made it end too soon. But we had fun. And everyone is warm and safe again.

Someone is happy things are undogged. We keep telling him we hope to have a dog someday. And it’ll be okay.

Nothing is finished. The weather has made my favorite things uncomfortable if not downright pain. But progress goes slow. One second spent on projects you feel passionate about is still progress! So here are some things still moving forward.

So little left to do.
Another pair of slippers on the comfy arch.
Trying to make stress balls. But I think I need to frog and start over.
A uke Kindle book I’m playing with.
My family thinks I’m overdoing it. I need a place to put the taped together pieces. Maybe a scroll library? I don’t want to fold or roll these as they become even more cumbersome. Ideas?
Recorder fun
More Christmas fun for the recorders.
Christmas for the violin. Bow tightening and rosin amounts still in flux.

And prayers for the safety of my adult kids driving over the river and through the woods, or some such. Weather will be rain/snow, etc. I’m worried but can’t wait to see everyone!

Tiptoe to Oz Tuesday

Wanting to see and learn music from Wicked, I went on my usual deep dive as I tip-toed to Oz. When I get into a musical, I go all in. I did that with Les Miserable, Phantom, and Into the Woods. Now I find Wicked and Hamilton calling. So first, The Wizard of Oz got my attention. Even though I just finished reading a book by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel’s father, Oz wins the in-depth first.

What got me started was the movie was on television on Sunday. I’ve always felt the show was presented for me, personally, as it always aired around my birthday. Yes, I’m a Sagg. Some years, I skipped it. But I decided to watch it this year because of all the Wicked hype.

I started to read Wicked but wondered what I might be missing from the original books.

So I’ve started reading The Complete Wizard of Oz. I have it on Kindle and Audible, but I am sure you can get it on Libby.

Already, I see names, places, and situations that Wicked mentioned that we never saw in that old but beloved movie. One I found interesting is the choice of Kristin Chenoweth. She is the good witch of the north. In the books, she is small in stature. So Kristin fits.

With The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (written 1900), the first book now checked off from a sleepless night of constant listening, and the second, The Marvelous Land of Oz (written 1904), well underway, I am happy with my new reading and future musical pursuits.

Does anyone know where I can see the illustrations? I thought I’d see them in the Kindle version, but they don’t seem to be there. I read a few of these to my kids when they were little, and I remember finding the pictures charming, if not a bit disturbing.

Anyway, back to the yellow brick road!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “blanket.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
Snow started two nights ago.
See? A nice little blanket that lasted the whole next day.
And is still on the porch banisters today.
It’s not as thick as the sheets of music I’m enjoying playing with on my piano. I’ve made copies of favorites and new pieces. Taped together, I didn’t have to do page turns. Yes, the newest fun is Linus and Lucy Theme. As much as I love that and Dexter, I’m horrid at the rhythms presented. So my newest challenge is to get beyond “Nice cup of tea” triplet against duplets, and other syncopation and jazziness. All my new and old favorites are making me more passionate about my piano time. Okay. Thanks, Mom. 60 years too late, I suppose. But you knew I’d say it some day.

How does one thank those who have given you the most? Especially when they’re gone. In this case, I’m embracing the passion and challenges. Though I’m not naturally gifted. My mother blanketed me in lessons and learning discipline to practice. Or as I convinced my inner child, playing.

As I blanket myself in other musical fun.
Blankets of security and fun.
Nearly finished.

Sammie the Spidercat the furry lapcat who now can blanket my legs as I knit, crochet or scroll.

The best blanket. Feeling content and secure.

My first step into the stream. My daughter and I loved the minute and music.

Then I laughed as I thought of the joke that ends with, “I made you say underwear!” And that brought up this song:

There were two bits in this song that I loved. Not only the joke but, but the bit about drinking from the hose. That line brought back so many memories of hot summer fun outside as a kid. Little did we know that wasn’t exactly healthy. So why did that water taste so much better?

My favorite place is underwater. I’d love to be able to scuba dive. I only had one chance, in a pool, but it was so much better than having to swim topside for air.

I’d love to get to see this guy/gal.

Sadly,

This little guy goes under early tomorrow for a snip, snip. And some shots. No food after 6. For a food motivated creature this will be tough. But I think it’ll be better in the long run.

But maybe once it’s done, I’m hoping, he’ll feel welcome keeping warm under our covers. But then again, past experience seems to point to a possible lack of sleep as kitties go under the zoomies when humans want sleep.

Not Sammie. But cute pic, eh?
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday‘s is “starts with ‘under.’” Find a word that starts with “under” and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “chill.’” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Chill out! Just because we had a tiny bit of snow on Halloween,

Doesn’t mean it’s Winter.

But we can’t lie around like that person. Sigh! I miss summer. Okay, not the extreme drought, or constant fires, but the beaches, time to swim. Time with friends. Friends still with us, and those chillin’ on the other side.

For the Halloween, All Saints Day, Dia de Los Muertos, Samhain celebration/tradition, I just consider it a remembering, I wrote letters to friends, family, God. It helped my deep depression to bring my spirit to a level of energy. Their spirits seem near enough even if I can’t hear what they are saying to me.

When I felt the need to listen, I pulled out the new Yarn Tarot Cards a friend gave me last year. Just like the pictures above help me communicate, pictures, archetypes, (look up the psychiatrist, Jung) help unlock our brains to communicate with ourselves and others.

I had hoped the Yarn Tarot would have patterns to knit or crochet–they missed a good chance! Rather, these are pictures similar to Rider -Waite cards that can spark my imagination. Other people need more elaborate pictures.

We all need that help, prompts. I had a teacher in grade-school who had a box of pictures to help out creative writing. In college, I learned you can pick up any book. Randomly, open close your eyes, pick a spot. The sentence or scripture you land on is something to ponder or write about. Most of the time it guides you. But as my dad would say. Watch out for being too literal. After all, Scripture says, “Judas hung himself.” “Go, ye and do likewise.”

But my stream is meandering as it often does.

The wisdom I gleaned remind me to be calm. To not jump to conclusions

In other words:

CHILL

Happy Halloween

I hope however you celebrate the 31st of October (and November 1st) it is happy and fulfilling.

Mine has been full of journaling and memories. Oh, and the traditional layer of snow to start the morning. Halloween always seems to be the first snow that sticks a minute (Getting ready for the night of writing dangerously, NaNoWriMo)

One-Liner Wednesday

Kitty in the box…

Is now a lap-kitty!!!!

(Sorry no on-the-lap pic yet.)

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “mug.’” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
During fasting time (before 2PM) these mugs help me gain health and energy. I love the glass. I can see bits of the ‘mother’ in my vinegar drink. I know they aren’t harmful but they look like worms. So I fish ’em out. 1 teaspoon of Bragg with bottled water. Then coffee. I should have caught the mug while the coffee was frothy.
This is my reward mug. I prepare Matcha tea, whisk and all, for my post-piano time. I sip it during my diamond painting time (see reading dragon progress below).
Mmmmm. It must be Matcha o’clock (1ish) This mug is a small bowl later for yogurt or popcorn.
The wisdom of a Matcha mug.
But here’s my favorite mug. By the way, we call my brother, Dad, as he’s been caring for the ferals outside. And he finally was able to bring this handsome guy in. He filled in the vet permit for vaccines and neutering. SAMMIE is how he spelled it. So, Sammie the Spidercat it is. Why? He loves the three-legged spider and I find he likes the Spidercat song as his theme song.
This is a couple weeks ago. Gosh, he has grown! Maybe we have a tiger here?

Sunday Smile

One of the outdoor kittens is now inside. My husband wants to call her/him Sammy. She/he seems comfortable and smiles. We’re hoping she/he likes it in here, and us.
She’s/he’s come out of the carrier and talks to us.
