Friday

The lower half of the balloon is nearly done.
The yarn my daughter gave me is becoming toes.
Here’s what the skein cakes look like.
The yarn my son gave me is becoming the finished toes.
This is how the skein and cake look. The cake was made because the dog made yarn vomit out of one of the skeins while I was gone for a day.
Yoga socks are nearly finished but I lost interest as it’s getting cold.
Arch ribbing starts soon. I still love these colors.
This is what the yarn looks like. Not much left. I hope I have enough for at least shorties.
Nearly to the heel. I like this color, too.
Close up off the yarn.
Mid arch ribbing.

Musically I’m enjoying sight reading a lot of songs from one of Sondheim’s books.

Three more hours until No Plot becomes my problem.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “alarm.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb or an adverb or an adjective, use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Alarms are ringing in my head. The night most people feel as exciting fright for Halloween, is my deadline for prep for the night of writing dangerously. Midnight after the trick or treaters have counted and downed much of their bounty, I’m drinking tea and hoping for words to count. But I have to wait for that moment. Five more days! (Only 5!)

This last week my reality was so much better than playing with my imaginary friends, but that time away made these characters as flimsy as paper dolls.

Wait! What?

Draw a story

Well, my stream just found an idea! Maybe I’m playing with my new friends this next few days. That is IF I can put down the yarn long enough to create a yarn. By the way, NaNo2.org is the new site, thanks, Yvensong. Still checking it out.

Five sock projects going on six.

Upper left purple striped socks. Just the toes. Straight down are the watermelon socks. Well into the arch ribbing. Middle row, top, lavender/pink socks, also to arch ribbing. Can barely see the white yoga socks in the middle but one sock is nearing the heel cast-off. I hate working a sock at a time. One sock syndrome is real. The bottom is new yarn from my son. I couldn’t wait to see what happens with this blue and white yarn. Upper right is the lonely yarn from my daughter. I will receive the new needles for this pair on Monday. They will be so cool!
While my daughter was here she bought black and white yarn skeins to teach herself colorwork. It looked like fun. So I pulled out contrasting colors to see if I could do it. Hey, this is fun. Now I need to try this on socks! And cabling. So I’m going to experiment on the pairs I’ve started.
My possible future young adult granddaughter had on a white sweater that inspired me. I printed up this pattern from Ravelry. But that much yarn will cost a fortune! And I’ll need needles. I like working in the round so I hope to get really long cables.

Does anyone else get like this? I want to try so many things?

Middle part in progress.
Printouts to practice from my 60s book.
One of my favorite composers. I have three volumes of his work . I’m sight-reading through these next.
Love this one. Ready to print it out and learn.
My brother found this for me. Now I need to look for John Denver songbooks

Yeah, moving right along. Italian is still my favorite.

I loved my week with loved ones and traveling. But I’m finding my equilibrium and energy levels blown to pieces. Bike and treadmill shame me this week. The weather is getting colder, less stable. I’m so glad my family members are safe and we can face the bad stuff from our homes.

Not to mention NaNo prep and character development is far from my focus right now

I’ll find my way back while teaching myself new passion.

It is amazing drawing random characteristics from

Saffron complexion, hooded mauve eye color, bob nose, nutmeg bristly bobbed hair, moon shaped face, Cupid’s bow mouth, wattles chin, apple cheeks, gangly body, stooped shoulders were the physical attributes. Other interesting bits, she loved fishing and yearned to wash, manic for water.

Then the#Inkober prompts I could use were pierce, starfish, reckless, heavy, and sweep. Thus Sunn Aisley Yellowle came into being. (The name randomly generated by WriteItNow6)

Not one just to succumb to peer pressure, Sunn woke in the hospital, her yellow skin meant that she was jaundice from liver failure. Fishing was her favorite sport–could this all be related? The IV needle pierced her skin. She passed out. When she woke, starfish covered her yellow breasts. She struck out in fear, recklessly knocking over the nurses. She realized her heavy legs had become a tail that swept the room.
Progressed to the balloon part of the diamond painting picture.

I’ve finished sight reading through

Now I’ll go through my piano journal to find my favorites to print out and practice.

The purple stripe toes are done ready for the foot.
The last pair of Yoga socks are nearly done. Next comes the heel cast-off, then the ankle cast-on. I’m finally getting used to these Hiya-Hiya Flyers.

I’m looking forward to seeing family this next week. We only get a day but it’s better than not seeing them at all.

Playing around with the colored pencils and getting bits of story wanting to be told has been inspiring and fun.

Thus Thursday

I’ve been busy creating a fun character but not quite ready to share. I must admit to being surprised. But the artwork is still in my head not on paper. I was worried that I was only getting bad guys but I have an unfortunate main character emerging. Even not knowing the next few Inktober prompts are fitting right in. I’m in suspense hope you are, too.

Meanwhile, did I tell you my stationary bike has a friend! Treadmill has joined the living room as a sofa sitter.

Doesn’t need to be plugged in and I’m m still meeting my goal of 30 minutes 4 miles not much but way more than if I didn’t do it, right?
It doesn’t hide all the way under the sofa. There’s a bar in the way so I have to push it under just on the end. The handle doesn’t fold under so it becomes a sofa side rail. So far my husband and I have only managed 5 minutes. Old knees and hips need to go slowly and carefully.

One-Liner Wednesday

When Viktor Tobias Olsson (antagonist ) looked into the murky mirror he saw an old man with a huge mustache, beady, squinty eyes, a Viking beard, a man-bun holding a yellow weave hat on his crown, his eyes grew large as a deer in the headlights. When did he become so old and blurry?

#Inktober for #NaNoWriMo (mustache, weave, crown, murky, deer)

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “at the beginning.” Use it any way you’re inspired to. Enjoy!

At the beginning of this month I had plans. I wanted to develop characters for my NaNoWriMo novel and maybe find a bit of plot to get me started.

Somehow life happened and I only felt one character standing up for himself. And at that he seems quite miserable.

I felt like a police sketch artist reading the random characteristics. But I finally had a sketch. Today I reviewed by using some colored pencils.

Yeah, he’s to be a minor antagonist. A wannabe cowboy/mountain man afraid of bridges and heights. Swollen feet fight cowboy boots. Straw hats allow sun as he never feels the sun enough in his life. He’s manic about being outside in the sun. His club foot gives him a limp. His name is Ervin Norbert Dorris.

I wanted to get involved with Inktober but day 1 for me will be when I introduce Viktor Tobias Olson. He has a mustache to start all kinds of trouble. But he’ll show up in a day or so with other Inky props.

Not so finished as midway or just getting started.

I still had enough of this yarn to make one more pair of socks. Besides I can’t stand to see naked needles. Size 2 40″ Chiaogoo needles TwoAtATime socks, Turkish cast-on done now on increasing section. I’m at 20 stitches per side and foot. I need 32 so 12 more rows to the arch.
My last pair of Yoga socks. These seem so pretty and soft. These are the size 1 Hiya-Hiya Flyers. They take some getting used to, but I’m liking the process more and more.
Watermelon socks are coming along. Size 2 40″ Chiaogoo needles TwoAtATime socks. I’m working on the arches now.
I never quite know what to call these. They are acrylic. Still, the yarn is soft and warm. Thick socks or slipper socks. Size 7 40″ Chiaogoo needles TwoAtATime socks. I need 2 more inches of arch ribbing before the start of the Fleegle Heel.
Bottom third of balloon diamond painting picture is done. I have some Halloween DPs waiting that I am anxious to start.
Well, look at that. I still enjoy Duo. I am sick of ads but I can’t afford the super or max. Still, I’m learning as much as I was way back when everything was free.
I’m still sight reading my way through this book. I am highlighting the ones I really want to work on. Those I will print out and tape together so I won’t have pages to turn.
I’ve made it through the ‘S’s. So much fun!

What I still need to do is NaNo characters and nearly two weeks of Inktober prompts. I tried today but couldn’t seem to get myself together enough. Maybe tomorrow.

One-Liner Wednesday

It takes strength of character to develop characteristics for new characters.

A part of Linda’s One-Liner Wednesday.

Well, I reported the finished projects last week, so today I’ll share new projects and progress of others.

My new flower balloon is grounded. The dark drill eyestrain is done.
The yoga socks on the Hiya-Hiya Flyers are coming along. The more I work with these skinny, sharp needles, the more I like them. I just need my stronger glasses to ensure nice stitches.
My experimental yoga socks will teach me, soon, how to leave out a heel. But will I have enough yarn for the ankle? Playing yarn chicken.
The watermelon socks have progressed to the arch.
The slipper socks are coming along.
I’m sight-reading through this book. I’m about halfway through, song titles starting with “I” as in “I’ll Be There”. This is fun. Some songs surprise me. Eleanor Rigby was fun to sing and play. As I play I’m finding the ones that challenge me while being doable. Then I will systematically print them. Then I can learn them well enough to sing.

Having not found a website to track my November novel, I’ve started to prepare anyway. My friend and I got together today to start finding characters. We’ve done it often this way. In person when we could, but now on Zoom.

We take each characteristic, randomly select a trait, and move on to the next.

It’s always a surprise how quickly the new character becomes nearly flesh and blood. As my first character came through, Ervin Norbert Dorris (the name randomly generated in WriteItNow 6.03c) seems a dirty troll under his homemade bridge with an attitude like Dexter. Well, the antagonist showed up first. That’s different.

My friend found a rather strong pretty punk character I think will be quite fun.

How do you start a book? For us the characters seem to people a world. Hopefully, all that prep gives us a start.

Happy prepping, all my NaNoWriMo friends!
