Jurassic ParkJurassic Park by Michael Crichton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okay, I’m late in reading these. I am a huge fan of the movies.

Usually, I like reading the book first before watching the film version. But I just didn’t get around to this one before memorizing the series’ first few movies. And that sadly gave me an up. I knew what needed to happen.

But the shows are better. I am so glad they rewrote the shows to tell a more friendly bunch of main characters. I don’t want to give spoilers if you haven’t read the books, but there were shockers. And now I feel I must read the next book in the series.

I do enjoy the writing of Michael Crichton. Yeah, I’m a newbie to his work.

Scott Brick gave a sense of authority to the science of the topic and acted most of the characters with gusto. But females were not done as well, sounding a bit demeaning. But overall, he kept the story interesting.

Manifesting Monday. I found a pup like I want:

If you haven’t seen this show, it is a heart warmer.

I fell in love with the above pup. Criteria: female, fixed, vaccines, calm but enjoys walks and outings with me. Easily trained, already house trained. Not a fussy eater, but not a kitty litter consumer. Loves being bathed, nails trimmed. Loves being a lap pup. But enjoys alone time. Playful, enjoys toys. Healthy mind, body. Can read the humans. Get along with cats or other dogs. Knows we love her and loves us back. Soft little ears. Cuddles. This or better for the greater good of all of us.

Meanwhile, I finished these:

The yarn was soft. I’m done with double pointed needles for a while. I’m glad I know how.
Look at the right sock! Finally the toe is happening. I still don’t know who will get these. They are smaller than most people I know. It may be they will go to the charity. Again, I think I’m done with shorter needles. I prefer long cables. These tiny things hurt after a while.
This is my favorite pair. I think they will be mine! I’m at the heel stage which means they’ll be done soon.

This Peanuts comic strip was first published on this day in 1958.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last thing you emptied.” Think of the last thing you emptied or something you empty often and use it as your prompt any way you like. Have fun!

Friday is trash day. Lots gets emptied on Friday. Most of the little yeah cans are simple. Pull out the small bag of trash, potty it in the large and walk it to the bin. But here next to my knitting chair, there on the other side of my table holding my laptop and all my hobbies and books, is the hardest trash can. I can’t see it. I often miss it. So yeah, on trash day I have to clean out the whole area. Ugh! I try to keep this trash just yarn or paper because I don’t want to handle ickies later. But still. I’d love an easier trash emptying solution.

Sorry, this is where the stream led today.

The other emptying stream was in a similar creek. When cleaning one needs to empty an area before restocking. I find that emptying process distressing. And often distracting. I can get caught up in the process of evaluating the items. Does anyone else have this issue? What do you do?

Whoa, I got caught up in a split stream!

Finishing Friday

This is my fourth pair of the Beginner Sock. I bought the pattern at my local yarn shop, Willows. But you can find this and other pattern from Knitting Pure and Simple
Here is her Ravelry page: Knitting Pure and Simple. I decided to try this heel on the pair below.
So I started (over and over) this pair in an attempt to learn to work cuff down on HiyaHiya Fliers. I was using the following YouTube.
My problem was my ADD and this heel were not playing nicely. You see, the stitches on the heel were *slip stitch as if to purl, knit* for a row. Turn then purl the whole row. My hands couldn’t remember which row they were on. So I used the above heel by Knitting Pure and Simple and it’s kind of working.
The heel is turned, the gusset is shaped and now I’m on to the foot.
At this stage the heel makes me think of the mouth of a hand puppet. Which gives me an idea for a future project.
This is my favorite pair. The Caron yarn is soft. The ChiaoGoo red-lace circulars, US 6 make these so much easier on my hands and brain. For this and the next two pairs I’m using the following YouTube
The yarn and needles for this and the next pair are thin and a little more wearing on my hand but their getting done!
I just started this pair (again) today so the toe is only a few rows done. I’m loving the color and feel of the yarn, it’s just a bit thin so it’ll take a bit to get done.

We just finished Star Trek Discovery. You know you loved it when you’re crying and laughing at the end!

Four seasons. My son says 5 is coming, but I think it ended well on 4.

What doesn’t seem to have a finish is what I’m calling Sprinter.

Our only other season is trying to start: Summer, Fire season.

Read top down, then bottom up.

The Burning World (Warm Bodies #2)The Burning World by Isaac Marion
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Though not as good or a quick a read as Warm Bodies, it was still a crunchie and delicious read. Seeing through the zombie’s eyes, R’s, we learn as he does about his past and the world’s past and present. The romance, though ongoing, seems to be cooling as a whole team of acquaintances attempts to find places of safety.

The narrator, Jacques Roy, does a great job acting out the various characters. At least he doesn’t make the females sound like he’s demeaning them. He keeps the listener engaged.

The author, Isaac Mario, melds action and poetry. Sometimes I wish I could turn on the light and write down a line or two he says. Just beautiful for a zombie story! Especially toward the end. I have already ordered the next book. And though this was a Libby audio, I ordered my own copy of the audible version, and I now have the blu-ray. I love this series!

Making Monday

Four heels! I wanted to see if I could math my way from a 40 stitch Cast-on to a 60 stitch Cast-on. Wahoo! It worked!

The heels are the brown cotton blend.  I have not been a fan of the acrylic (the blueish white) or the cotton. The fibers are not as soft and they separate. Ugh! Oh, these are with the  HiyaHiya Fliers needles.

Double Pointed needles (Knitters’Pride Dreamz) the Cascadi superwashed yarns are very soft. I have the needles pointed to the heels. These four, tinks included, took me all day. But I feel accomplished on this first day of spring.

By the way, this day started out like this:

Progress has been made on other socks over the weekend.

Softer yarn but thinner and the ChiaoGoo red-lace circulars are a US size 1. But almost to the heels! Yay!
Caron is the softest yarn and I love these colors. ChiaoGoo red-lace circulars US size 8. Easiest on my hands.
