The Last Bookshop in London: A Novel of World War IIThe Last Bookshop in London: A Novel of World War II by Madeline Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m so sorry I am finished reading this book! I wanted to live with these characters. No, I didn’t want to live during a war, especially while bombs were dropping. But I love living with book people who love to share books with those they love. Oh, yeah. I already live that, sans bombs!

Saskia Maarleveld (Narrator) keeps the story live. Not even a moment did I remember real life while in the book.

I love stories about females during World War II, but they are often soft mushy girls who do not seek their inner strength. They often fall in love with the guy and become arm candy or the like. Not our main character here. She seeks her own worth and, in the process, finds a fellow book lover, even before she has become addicted to the same.

Please, if you get the chance, try this book. I think you may love it as much as I did. I was lucky to pick it up on Libby, but I am seriously thinking of getting my own copy for when I want to curl up in a guaranteed good read. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Finishing Friday

This is the feet and pants of the bear I’m learning to knit. See yesterday’s blog for the YouTube.

By the way, see the end of the needles? These were part of a little box my mom gave me decades ago. I don’t know what the gob is. Maybe putty? Gum? And I’m not sure but that these may be ivory from the days when we did such horrors as chop of elephant tusks for our knitting or makeup supplies. Still, it is cool to have inherited my mother’s needles.

This will be another hat.

This little squiggly doll was made a year or so ago. I don’t like stuffing and sewing so he went into the WIP cave of lost souls. But my daughter’s new interest in knitting toys gave me a boost to try and finish him. I need to stuff and sew on the arms and give him a hat or hair and a face.

Two hats
Frogged and remounted socks.
A lapdog that wouldn’t let me knit.❤️

Dava Shastri's Last DayDava Shastri’s Last Day by Kirthana Ramisetti
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I spent the first half of this book wanting to throw it across the room or just quit reading. The main character was interesting, and I wanted to get more into her head. But her offspring were horrid. They were supposed to be attending to their mother’s deathbed, but all they could do was fight and be hateful.

I guess that is credit to the author to have written such strong characters. Soneela Nankani (Narrator) was fun to listen to, her acting chops showing regardless of which person she was playing.

In the end, I found I liked the book and was happy to read it. And redeeming of beings took place.

I learned about this book on Good Morning America one day. At first, I couldn’t see how it even got featured. But soon, I could see a lot of lessons to be learned with a deeper reading, like in a book club. It was nice to read about a strong woman who obtained everything in the end. But that was at the beginning of the book. It is very worth the read!

Found on Facebook. I agree.

Learn More About Knitting

I just learned that someone I know and love has taught herself to knit. Toys! I can knit toys on the loom but never learned to make them on needles. So I asked where she learned. Here are the YouTubes I plan to follow and her Works In Progress.

Aren’t they cute? I can’t wait to learn!

Making Monday

The hat on the orange KB loom proved to be a promise of trouble. I knew I wouldn’t like how to close the crown. Decreasing on this loom would be impossible. So I frogged. Now it is on circular needles.

Three hats and one pair of slipper socks. I wish it were no hats. And I’m seriously considering frogging the socks and mounting them on a larger loom or needles as the yarn is too thick for this to be fun.

Yep. I feel a frogging coming on.

This and That

Found on Facebook
Progress, though slow.
This yarn was too thick for this project. The G size crochet hook is larger than this yarn. Besides it was hurting my arms and shoulders working this tight. So it’s been frogged.
So now this KB loom will be making a hat.
As will the cable needles and the Flexee fine-gauge loom. I guess I’m on a hat kick. But I really want to work on socks.

I hope you have a great week.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “a word that contains a silent letter.” Choose a word that contains a silent letter and use it in your post, or write about words with silent letters in general. Enjoy!

Though I wanted to actually write something creative today, I found it rather tough after working on my other projects. Oh, and we are busy watching Moonfall and now Night Sky ( both quite interesting) I’m too tired and distracted.

Here are the experiment hats.

The needle-knitted hat turned out a little too big and the Flexee a little too small. The Flexee colors made it easy to do a two-by-two ribbing. In the needle-knitted hat, I found it easy to find where the purls were and where the knits were, so I did a one-by-one ribbing.

I loved Moonfall. (HBOMAX) My favorite kind of movie!

And I am quite into Night Sky on Amazon Prime.

Finished Friday

FINALLY! After many frogs and tinks the needle hat is finished.

It looks small but it fits my big head. There’s lots of yarn left in the skein so I may attempt another hat. These are donated yarns so they go to the charity.
Almost to the decreasing part of the crown of the hat. I can’t wait to see how the two hats compare.

The socks are all in the position last seen. I guess my hands needed a hat break.

More than halfway done with Starry Night.

I’m loving, well, loving hating my treadmill. I know if I keep it up I will make healthy progress.

That’s it for now. Wish I had progress on any writing. But we celebrate what we can.

My condolences to my friends across the pond.

Have a good weekend!

Improbable Magic for Cynical WitchesImprobable Magic for Cynical Witches by Kate Scelsa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don’t know who recommended this, but it was an insightful read. Kate uses Tarot Major Arcana to tell a piece of a teen’s confusing life. I love how we learn the cards as a story unto themselves and how it applies to Elenor’s past.

Kate Sclesa is a young adult novel, and the romances cause angst. But I loved climbing into Elenor’s thoughts and seeing how she caused her worries to grow.

Stacey Glemboski (Narrator) brought this Audible version alive with her voice acting.

Quite an enjoyable and inspiring read.
