Tag Archive: Camp NaNo

Many people found ways to express themselves in 2020. Many of us worked towards being healthier. I was in my 19th NaNoWriMo year. This shirt was for my 30+ pounds extra. It’s still my favorite. It fits like a tent but it’s so comfy.
Since I’ve been NaNoing since 2001, I’ve collected a few shirts. I tried to buy one every year whether or not I won. The light blue was one of the first. Yes, they are wrinkled . But now I’ve folded them up and put back in the drawer they had been wadded into before. The room is dark so I often pick up whatever color calls to me. They are my “play clothes,” not go to town clothes. Sometimes they are sleep shirts.
Here are some of my other favorites. I don’t have a Live Journal anymore but I made everlasting friends there.
Oops! I nearly forgot my newest favorite.
Yes, David is my Doctor.
Oh. And my favorite Halloween shirt. My son and stepson work at Knott’s. Both knew I would ride any ride, but NEVER go to Halloween Haunt. I don’t like people jumping out to scare me. People are scary enough!
This is the back. It glows in the dark. I’m part of the scary people. Imagine being my husband! Love ya, Sweetie! It becomes my night shirt in October and reminds me to start creating characters as NaNoWriMo starts the day after Halloween.
This prompt was brought to us by Linda G. Hill. Go check out her page and join in the Stream of Consciousness Saturday fun. In case you couldn’t tell, today’s prompt was ‘shirt.’

Yay, Z!

I don’t know why this was a tough month. The challenge was extra challenging.

You would think the alphabet could be easy. It’s not been that hard in the past.

But so had Camp NaNo. You want to know how far I got on that goal? Zero. Zip.

Yep, once again editing, writing, and my podcast and piano goals got nothing but yawns. Yippee!

But… Yarn got a lot of attention. Many socks nearly jumped off the needles. I seem to have a lot of zest for knitting.

Oh, well. Zippity Do Dah!

A-Z Challenge

Eventually, all these will be finished. But here is evidence of work completed.

These somehow drifted to my husband’s side of our mutual recliner table. I had just joined the toe with the foot part. I’ve added on the all the way to the arch ribbing.
Ending a heel problem. See the little tubes! They are fine elastic thread I’m experimenting with to strengthen the heel, rather than the holes that develop from early in wear and tear. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Still on the arch area. These are slower due to thinner yarn and needles.

Editing is still falling by the wayside. I set up the NaNo goal that I had last month.  I need to find an organic way to schedule it into my day. I can’t seem to muscle up the energy. Piano is in the same boat. I think the enlightenment will release my passion to enjoy these enterprises.

The beach is almost done. Maybe this weekend?

Between earthquakes in New York and another Eclipse the news has been more interesting than usual. Don’t you think? Epic times!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “yes.” Find a word that starts with “yes” or use the word “yes” as is. Bonus points if you start your post with the word you choose. Enjoy!
A-to-ZChallenge.com

Yes, I already did Y. I even ended with a Yes, I can. Hey, does anyone remember that book? I read it a LONG time ago. Sammy Davis Jr. wrote it. How’s that for streaming.

Yes, Y is a great letter. Including how many yesterdays it’s been since the 60s and 70s Paul McCartney song that I got to lip synch to in highschool drama class.

By the way, I am still far behind on the word count on CampNaNo, yet doing quite well on YWriter. So I think my math was yucky. Either way, the book is nowhere near finished so I’ll just be glad with whatever progress I get. It’s all a win. Yay!

And my stream is yelling that I need to go to yWriter and tell my yarn.

You all take care of yourselves. Wish I had a way to use the word yellow. Well, guess we wouldn’t want that in the stream. 🤣

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “antic.” Use it as a word or find a word that contains it. Bonus points if you do both. Enjoy!

Anticipating April and Camp NaNo, I set up an easy goal. 15k for the month. Editing the novel started in November helps me get reacquainted with all the characters and the plot. So I’m counting the contents of each scene I edit. That will give me word count at first. And today’s count impresses me: 3,440! Yay!

Other antics I’ve been up to: more socks!

These are for me!!! Toe-up Two At A Time Socks with Fleegle Heel on ChiaoGoo red-lace circulars US 8, 40″. I no longer need to watch the YouTube by Happee.
On the foot, nearly the toes. I’m so glad. These needles and thin yarn are hard for my hands. These will probably fit a child.
These have been knitted and tinked so many times! Though the needle and yarn are thin, the Two At A Time Toe-up Socks on ChiaoGoo red-lace circulars US 1 are easier than the HiyaHiya Fliers or double pointed needles. It’s a learning curve for the mind and fingers.

Meanwhile, I’m improving on my exercises. I graduated bands on one of the leg bits. I can finally do a jumping jack. Not as many as the trainer, but more than the arm lifts I did at first. Isn’t it fun to watch your own body and mind improve? Even at this age (73)! Marvelous! We are made out of the stuff of miracles!

We’re loving Piccard!!!

Don’t expect practice jokes from me. I hate them. But I love all you

The prompt word for January 22nd is “seasonal.” Thanks go to Kaye for the wonderful prompt!

For Just Jot it January, click the following link to see how you, too, can join in! https://lindaghill.com/2023/01/22/daily-prompt-jusjojan-the-22nd-2023/ It’s fun!

Linda spoke of how her writing was seasonal. NaNoWriMo, CampNaNo and Just Jot It January becomes her writing time. Me, too. It seems those programs help motivate me properly. I haven’t won every time. And sometimes, like last month as I tried another goal, I made no progress at all. But often I make the 50k. Even on the camps. That would probably not surprise my teachers. Most of my report cards had comments like, ‘Darlene talks too much in class.’

This year I’ve over-goaled my life with all the gifts I’m trying to make and so writing has fallen by the wayside.

And I still have to podcast and start reading aloud my books, starting with my memoirs. The area in my house I planned on using, suddenly has Diamond Paintings.

My recorder playing, piano and voice practice have fallen off.

There are only 24 hours in a day. Still!!! I stay up reading until 3 or 4. With my old dog waking me often, sleep also seems seasonal. Heat and smoke and bugs of summer, icy cold and snow of winter affects everything in our house. Where we hang out, how we sleep, either covered up over my head with warmth or sheet to keep bugs off. And all this affects energy and pain levels, ya know?

Maybe I need to organize my day better and my week to include everything I want to do.

Thank goodness for the treadmill. It still gets used most days of the week.

How does anyone get anything done with a job? I did do NaNo. But the rest of this, writing, knitting, especially learning new stitches, artwork, music, etc. Little got done. Too tired. Housework. Phew!

Seasons of our lives are as influential as the weather. Whew!

More like sort of beginning.

I’m at 41,852 in the autobiography. Dividing it up like this between three months is nearly painless.

I finally got the beach sunset up. Square drills are the worst! Some are still trying to pop off. I hated my painted frame. I used too much sealant trying to keep those tiles on. So the idea of a sunset on a beach is on the wall above the piano. My dream area in Dar’s Dabbling Den, right next to my gifted Mermaid (thank you, Georgia). Yeah. Now I see they need to be straightened. And tenor recorder tried to get into the act.

I started a new diamond painting. A lighthouse. It is bigger than others I’ve done. It’s for my husband.

Here’s a quick unboxing.

Size. And look how great those symbols look. This should be easy!
It came with easy instructions.
Two pens and cushions instead of just one. At least two waxes.
Lots of little baggies.
Open on my easel in my drill catching tray/lid. The bags of colors.
Another look at the drills in baggies.
Here’s my first days work. That bit on the upper right. I had to roll up the left side to fit in my easel.
Today’s work. Play!

Knitting socks continues but less than the diamond painting. But the progress doesn’t show up much in pics, just a couple rows each.

So what have you been up to? Being retired is great!

Thus Thursday

I’m still recuperating, not so much from the surgery but so many long trips on so little sleep. My husband noticed I don’t wear glasses while knitting or diamond painting. I still haven’t been brave enough to play piano or recorder for fear of not seeing the music properly.

I’m back to doing Morning Pages and working through both Artist Way and It’s Never Too Late by Julia Cameron.

My Life is still progressing. Five more days in May to meet my goal. I think it’s doable.

Lots getting done. Lots of writing. Still need to rest my eyes a lot while marveling over this miracle.

Tomorrow dragon’s face! Outlander 8 is the background story.

Okay, confession time. Since starting Camp NaNo, my memoirs/autobiography/my life, my background show has been Heartland. I figured I have horses to look at and it wouldn’t be distracting. I was scared it would be heavy western music. It has been tolerable. I always skip the intro song, but even it isn’t horrid. It is just boring and doesn’t seem to apply to the show.

Anyway, it worked quite well for the first four seasons. Great background. Then suddenly I found it distracting. I got invested in the characters and story. So I guess I should recommend it to others. I’ve made it to the 13th season! Only one more, then I’ll need another distracting background.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “zip, zero, zilch.” Use one, use ’em all, bonus points if you use all three. Have fun!

Zipping through hours of Diamond Painting and loom knitting socks. And I am having so much fun listening to book 8 of Outlander.

When our weather guy gave us the latest news on our drought, we found zero improvement. We are still at “exceptional” status. Worse than anywhere in Oregon. We are in the Outback or desert. But this has been the driest year since we got here. I have to admit to being really afraid of fire season coming up.

Now, I’ve got to confess, I’ve had yWriter7 open since I woke up early this morning. Zilch. But I promise all of us I will meet my 20k goal before bed tonight. Otherwise I count on zero, zip, zilch sleep.

Autobiographies/memoirs are far harder than making it up in you head and playing with imaginary friends!
Whew! 20,100 words! And that only has me to age 21. So many I’ll set the goal for 20k each month to keep it moving

At least I can sleep tonight.
