Cursed (Cursed Magic #1)Cursed by Casey Odell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A four-star rating is pushing it. Mainly because I decided to try to read Book Two, I’m hoping it will get better. I picked this first book up in 2013. I kept putting off reading it. I was getting tired of Young Adult books, even then. Most are so angsty. Sadly, thirteen years later, I feel the same way.

The story started interesting enough, but as soon as the main character gets with the elves, the angst starts. ‘Why doesn’t he pay more attention to me? I can’t help myself; I have to kiss him. I know he’s bad for me, etc., etc.’

I pushed myself to get through this with Kindle Text-to-Speech. But it still was hard to read/listen to.

Okay, I will admit I was probably not the preferred audience; 76 is not YA, except in my own mind.

By the way, you can get this as a Kindle Unlimited title. Maybe you’ll like it better than I did.

Elven Doom (Death Before Dragons, #4)Elven Doom by Lindsay Buroker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was another fun addition to the Death Before Dragons series.

Who doesn’t love a dragon that can transform into a handsome man who is out to save your life while you try to save his?

But in this book, our monster-slayer moves on to another mission even though her dragon-man isn’t around to help.

This book might be the most exciting and scary of this series.

I want to listen to these books on audiobooks because I got lost with the text-to-speech. And I often felt such irritation about how the word ‘finger’ is pronounced ‘fin jer’ or how one of the support characters, whose name is Nin, was repeatedly called Nine Inch Nails. That takes me right out of the story. So before I find the next books in the series, I will try to see if I can find the audiobooks.

Curve of Her ClawCurve of Her Claw by Margaret McGaffey Fisk

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I wish I could give this story more stars. Especially since, so far, I have loved all of my friend, Margaret McGaffey Fisk’s other stories. This is the first story that I had to read in two sittings. I couldn’t continue reading it as a bedtime book, too gruesome!

At the end of the story is the reason it is so dark. This was a part of a dark fantasy anthology. It needed that darkness. It succeeded! I typed that with a shiver up my spine.

As usual, the writing was spectacular! I just didn’t care for the main character, no matter how hard I tried. I wanted the story to take a different path, but it didn’t. I hope I never meet an elf like this one!

For my braver friends, this may be right up your alley! Try it!
