I’m so sad to say I have finished the series. I read and listened so quickly that I forgot to review the books in between.

Each book has a unique story, and each pulls the reader into the life of the story. One feels they are there, immersed in the time and place with all the triumphs and terrors of the time of war.

This story highlighted the lives of female flyers. And the aftermath of bombing attacks. And murder.

I was fortunate to borrow these audiobooks from Libby.

Jacqueline Winspear’s writing and research are amazing. Orlagh Cassidy’s narration made me see the world from the characters’ eyes.

I love this series so much! It is the only series I am reading without text-to-speech or narration. On my old phone, on the Kindle app. Each book is just the right size for me, and by being Kindle, I can adjust the font and background. And when French words appear that I don’t know, I can highlight them, and the app will translate them for me.

This book was enjoyable to read as Laura and her husband, Franck, fix up an old home in hopes of making it a profitable vacation getaway. Somehow, my review is falling short. But this book is anything but. I always feel that I am not only traveling to France, but also learning a bit of history and enjoying French vocabulary.

Each of these books is enjoyable and personable. I’ve already moved on to the next book. I think I’ll try to read these again, but I’ll also look for the audiobooks. I want the sound of the French to help my education.

Why is one leg not called a pant when two legs make pants?

How is it that a penthouse is huge, but there is no room for pent-up emotions?

Why did Pa call Laura Half-pint when she could have been Quarter-quart?

Just don’t get me started on pont. Is it a ferry, bridge, or point? I guess I punt that out of the park.

Things that make me want to pent it all up until I pant it out until… okay, I give up!

Finishing Friday

My newest sea turtle diamond painting is nearly 1/3 done.
I haven’t done but a row or two on my watermelon socks. Still not up to the arch ribbing.
See the yellow marker? I was ribbing along while chatting and oopsed. So now I have to tink back a couple rows. Darn!
My hands were longing for larger needles. So I started on scrappy socks. See how much faster the larger needles and yarn move along? Already to the arch ribbing. Turkish cast-on, 8, increase toe to 16. Then knit until arch. Then knit, purl until time for Fleegle Heel.
My son told me I would love the Skyrim Theme. He’s right. There are a lot of YouTubes to hear it for now. Soon I’ll do a Warts and All with all I’m working on.
My favorite song, played often on Grey’s Anatomy, Chasing Cars. Every time I hear it I cry. I don’t know why exactly. Now I’m enjoying learning how to play and sing it. Next to that song, is God Bless The Child. The closest to ready of all. It is so much fun to play.
I’m starting to relent and do scales and exercises, hence Hanon’s 1st exercise. Almost polished Ash Grove. Still working Con Te Partiro, another favorite.
And for my constant audience member in my Dabbling Den, Shilo for Shiloh. It’s coming along. I seem to be learning more about improv on this one. Daylight is HARD so I’m taking a measure or two at a time. And I’m still loving Succession.
And Italian is my favorite on Duolingo keeping me going.

I hate when my reading gets so far ahead of my reviewing. Luckily, reading the blurb helped refresh my memory of what happened in this book. This book grabbed me right away with the young man witnessing a murder and how it left him confused.

Despite the Second World War increasing in intensity, local murders not only didn’t go down but escalated. Sometimes it is war-related, perhaps even from a previous war, leaving behind lingering bad feelings. So Maisie’s job is cut out for her.

Once again, Jacqueline Winspear’s writing and research are impeccable. And Orlagh Cassidy’s narration is so entertaining.

Thanks to Libby for loaning me the audiobook. And thanks to my friend, Kay, for recommending this series. I’m nearly finished. I’ll be so sad when it comes to an end.

Somehow, I have gotten so far ahead in reading and so behind in reviewing that I have forgotten the whole of this story. But all the books in this series are so intriguing that I couldn’t stop. So check out the blurb on GoodReads or Amazon and follow Maisie Dobbs’ story from beginning to end.

Jacqueline Winspear researches the history, style, and places her characters inhabit so you feel you are there, then. Orlagh Cassidy narrates with authentic accents for each character.

Once again, I thank Libby for having these books and audiobooks to borrow. And I thank my friend, Kay, for recommending Maisie Dobbs to me.
