The winds dried up a lot of the water. The rest froze. It would seem life is better. But the barometric pressure is doing the rollercoaster thing. When that happens and I start flaring the only thing I can think to do is nap.

Here is my napping partner after I got up and came back to bed–cover hogger!

Who could resist this face?

So this ark is still surrounded by more than a foot of water and snow. The wind is blowing in the next rain/snow storm. Here are some new pictures I took this morning.img_20170205_1401063_rewind_kindlephoto-493350

See the red gas can (empty)? It used to be under the kitchen window. It is either the tide or the wind that carried it to the far east of our property. And you can still see lots of snow. In fact, we have to carry the dog to higher snow to do her business.

Anyone who would dare to come visit or even the poor UPS guy will have to walk on the ladder then to the bit of snow to get to the first step of our front porch. We are taking care of a poor stray cat and usually feed him under the front porch. But now have to feed on the steps. Somehow, he is getting to the food. But how he does it without swimming I can’t figure out.

I just ordered some knee-high rainboots. My brother has some and has been the main person to carry but when he goes back to work (which isn’t tomorrow as the whole town is going through this) I will be able to carry her out.

Though this place has the happy name of Christmas Valley, the county name is LAKE. Now I know why!

Pull on your galoshes. This ain’t pretty.

Last night my dog didn’t want to go do her duty. There was the smallest bit of mud and water at the bottom of our porch steps. I got inventive and set the welcome mat over that wetness and she was able to jump across into the yard to do what she needed to do.

This morning she did okay. But by afternoon the stream and mud had gotten larger. It covered much of the welcome mat. Luckily, we had a wheelbarrow full of old dried weeds that never made it to the compost before the snow started (Thanksgiving?). I picked up a mat of these dried weeds to make another bridge across the moat at the bottom of our stairs. That was about three hours ago.

My brother made it home from work okay. An hour after that I needed to take said princess out once again. This is what we found from every window”

Backyard and brother’s car–which managed to get home from work in spite of floods coming home. He was able to get out of the car and up the porch in relative dryness. An hour later this is what we saw.

So needless to say, poor little Kali has nowhere to go. Thank goodness for the piddle pad?

We are in a mobile. We are expecting more rain tonight and snow by Tuesday. Scary-hairy stuff.

This is my stream of consciousness as of fifteen minutes ago. Maybe STREAM is a word I should have avoided?

This all represents the good of this crazy Saturday. Stay tuned to part II.

Ugh! Weather!

Just to make a blog about it–I’m not blogging today. The weather is hurting me. I’m going to curl up in that corner over there—–> and sleep and knit until I feel better. That’ll bring me to Stream of Consciousness Saturday. I expect a deluge!

Day 1 without prompt. Thank goodness this one comes built-in. Get ready for a meandering.

groundhogs-day

I love GHD. I love the movie, too. But it is similar to Christmas and Easter and St. Patrick’s day. It is for the fun. The facts are that little rodent can’t tell us if Spring will come early or not. Not by looking at a shadow. The only way it can see it’s shadow if the sun is shining. So how would a sunny day predict more winter?

Here we had snow, again. That seems more of a predictor. But back to the groundhog. A way it could be right is how thick the fur is. If it were shedding we might know that milder weather was coming.

That aside. I love the movie and the possibilities it presents. What if we had a day that repeated? Maybe most of us wouldn’t have so far to go from our current selves to a more refined and loving person. Still, I do think we might go through that suicidal stage. When Phil starts out he’s an egotistical mess. But for most of us the boredom of doing the same things over and over. Oh, wait! Isn’t that how it is for most of us in the work-a-day world when we are not in love with our jobs?

What I find even more exciting, though, is when Phil discovers that with all this time he could use what he learns to enhance his life and soon enhance the lives of others. Now I realize that we don’t have the opportunity to find the money to take daily piano lessons or French lessons, we can use our time to learn what we can when we can. It is more difficult when we are working and so tired at the end of the day. But if we try we can find a moment here or there to do those things we have curiosity or passion for.

Oh, and the chances Phil had to forgive others and earn forgiveness for himself is so touching. Seeking to find ways to save lives and others’ feelings. It was finally something he could get to seeing the same things every day. But I believe those moments are there for us.

I am lucky to finally be at the point in my life where there is time to think and do things I wished I could have had when I had more energy and less pain. Having the chance to take German and Spanish (Duolingo) on a daily basis, a chance to give back to society by making hats and other things, are some of the Phil things I can do now. When warmer weather gets here walking or playing the piano (that room is TOO cold right now) will be added to my regiment. Wouldn’t it be cool to die knowing I did the best with my brain and body? What if my last words were in Spanish or German? True others around me might not know what I am saying, but I would know I made my brain last until the last moment. There was a woman in the home my dad was in that was a concert pianist. No. I will never be at that level. But wouldn’t it be cool to be the old lady that can play for others? Wouldn’t it be great to end our day with love that we gave away to others everyday knowing our lives counted for something?

Happy Groundhog’s Day–even tomorrow!

Version ControlVersion Control by Dexter Palmer

I did not finish this book. Here are my comments at to why:
I must not be in the mind-set for this book. I found the main characters self-involved and boring and just couldn’t get into the story. I kept re-reading whole chapters trying to see what it was I was missing as I wanted to at least like or care for this story. But nope. Meh. Sorry. I know a lot of people loved it so it must just be me. I love time travel and ideas. But this seemed to want to comment about how how horrid the current generation of screen watchers had it all wrong and how previous generations settled. But what is left out is learning to love, even those we settle for. Think of other cultures where a mate is chosen for you. Love can be worked at and developed. That is true regardless of your method of meeting and connecting with people. I met my husband of 20 years online. But we were seeking more than friendships. The rest we worked at and developed. Technology is neither bad or good, nor should we judge those who use or don’t use said tech. It just is. A person is either worth my read or not according to where we are on our paths. And I cannot judge who is ahead on said path.

You wake up from a disturbing dream and go to the kitchen for a glass of milk; on the fridge you find this

nightmare

I have always lived in a housefull of practical jokers. So I would assume it one of them hearing me scream. Neither creepy nor comforting. Just is.

A Tapestry of TearsA Tapestry of Tears by Gita V. Reddy

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book free of charge from the author.

Well, this was a treasure. You all know I don’t like short stories. I like getting to know characters deeply. That is why I read so many series. But Gita V. Reddy has pulled off keeping the story short while not leaving the reader empty.

If there was a theme running through these stories it would be “Love”. Though the stories are about Indian families/couples the American reader isn’t lost in cultural differences. The stray non-English word helps in keeping the story authentic but those aren’t over done.

The female dilemmas that plague many countries are merely spoken of in fact as part of the story and not the end goal. That made the stories more interesting.

I found re-reading the last couple stories from other books a little boring but if it were the first time for a reader to see them they might find these interesting.

Well-done, Gita! I do recommend that everyone read this book. It can make you see some of your own flaws to work on in love. It isn’t just for Indian women. It is for everyone!

Detritus

Wow! I made it through a whole month. I managed to write ever day! I just hope it wasn’t too much detritus. There is still so much I need to know about making my blog look nice and have consistency in my writing. I would like to be more organized in my thoughts. But as with NaNoWriMo, I seem to do better off the cuff if I want to keep a habit of writing.

I have made new friends by checking out other blogs doing this JusJoJan. Does anyone have any ideas to help me keep this up? I do best with some kind of prompt.

Anyway, thank you, Linda G Hill for this fun experience. And thank you, Lorraine of My Frilly Freudian Slip, for the prompt I had to look up. By the way, Linda says we should say, “Hi!” so Hi!
