Don’t get me wrong. This book was good. But I HATE cliffhangers. I forgave book one. But this one was way worse. The world is a mess right now. I don’t need the angst. I am quitting on this series. If you are rich enough to get all the series, enjoy. Luckily, enough of the answers are given in the blurbs, so you don’t have to continue buying to find out if it works out. But NO book is worth this nervous energy,

Still, I raised the star rating to two stars because the writing was well done. And the narrator, Elise Arsenault,ย  did a marvelous job of acting out the characters.

Trigger warnings are all over, from rape and abuse at the top of the list. But I don’t feel the character who is supposed to help is helpful in the long run. So, read at your own risk.

Finishing Friday

I was going to do a couple of reviews but my back is hurting and I need to blog something a bit easier.

Bottom 1/4th of the beach sunset diamond painting is nearly finished. I’m loving the colors.
Chris’s socks are coming along. I need only a couple more rows of the arch hug and then the heel. It always seems so much faster once the Fleegle Heel is done.

With the furry ones much of my creative ventures are curtailed. But I feel a win. With so much going on finding music time without distractions is impossible. And I need to leave the screen open so Milo doesn’t freak out. So I’ve found myself able to play in spite of an audience or distraction. In fact, I found myself enjoying it. Yes, I will soon record a session or two.

And the bonus… Shiloh is a musical kitty. She hits the ivories with soulful, quiet feelings. Then she lets me know it’s my turn. She stays in my music room while I play.

Though I don’t have as many finished projects, I feel happy and content with our accomplishments of the week.

Thus Thursday, A-Z, C&D

Our lives feel weird. We are blessed. But we admit to questions. My husband and I don’t necessarily believe in reincarnation. And in the case of the new cat who was born while her doppelganger lived with us it seems impossible. Oh, and by the way, we’ve finally got the close under the skirt, to find Shiloh is female.

So, we had Teddy from the time he was a young kitten.

Rosey was 12 when we rescued her.

Kali was an older dog when we adopted her.

Over a year ago we lost each ine over the rainbow bridge.

We felt the losses profoundly.

Even as we felt that, we knew there were furry friends who needed new forever homes.

Ginger=Teddy, Black cat=Rosey, Black and white dog=Kali

Manifesting, prayers, the screaming cries of our souls?

We are each feeling the gratitude and wonderment. We didn’t seek out replacements. As my vision board showed, I needed a small dog. My specifics were merely someone small enough for me to pick up.

Yet, somehow we got Sammie

Who is in hiding from the barking dog, he’s hiding near and behind the fridge. He’s getting braver.
Shiloh who is afraid of nothing.
Milo, our new doughnut dog.

Cat and dog doppelgangers. Living the dream.

This is me gently playing the A-Z challenge. Yes, I’m a day ahead but who knows how long that will last.

Review: Clarity by Loretta Lost

Reaching to the bottom of my currently-reading shelf I found this at 79.

Look straight up, I will warn you. The main character is blind and experiences a rape. So you will have to decide for yourself if this is something you can handle. The author covers the situation with all her senses, as she does with the rest of the book. Though I didn’t like the rape, the next bits of the story are quite interesting.

Elise Arsenault narrated the Audible version I listened to. Her voice is a great addition to the story.

Now I have to say what I didn’t like. Say it with me? Cliffhanger! The worst! Good thing it happened at night with me awake enough to want to read more. I often don’t buy the next if that’s how the authors do it. Somehow, I moved on and am reading book two. But I feel violated when an author does that!

Still, I do like the main character and how she chooses to live her life. And I do want to read more.

I love both Earthseed #1 and #2. Octavia E. Butler gives us all something to think about. It doesn’t matter if you believe the Earthseed theories. The story holds its own as people try to survive in a world unlike ours, enough to make it nearly unbelievable. And yet. Take a moment to think, what if? What would you do living from the survivor’s point of view?

I miss the narrators Patricia R. Floyd, Peter Jay Fernandez, and Sisi Aisha Johnson of both this book and the previous one. I highly recommend this Audiobook if you can find it.

What I like about this book and such stories as The Walking Dead (which this is NOTHING like) is the human factor and how people choose their leaders and beliefs and judge others from their own standards.

I may read these books again soon. I miss the story already. Don’t you hate it when a story affects you so deeply that you can’t breathe without it happening in your head?

In the 80s, we had a Commodore 64 (my friend and I visited on a Bulletin Board!), a Tandy Sensation, and bits and pieces of others. The internet went from the exciting screaming of connecting modems to what we have today. Remember AOL, NetZero, PeoplePC, Prodigy, and everything in between. This cyberworld has been an adventure and sometimes scary place to visit.

It was fun to think about that history and see it from Kara Swisher’s point of view. She is a techie and journalist.

I found this edition in Libby and found it had to be read while alert. Not a bedtime story. You have to think while listening. I hope everyone gets a chance to listen to this book. Ms. Swisher is intelligent and can help us see how the industry has changed and progressed. She has some cautions for us as we proceed.

Funny you should bring these as our prompt.

New pets are awesome. Their cuteness brings out our musical “Awwwws”

But cleaning the accidents or taking the dog outside? We are at the, “Not it!” Stage. And when it seems you are the only choice, the inner grump attaches the leash and mutters, “Aw, shucks!” Or other more forceful quotations.

Yeah. We’re there.

“This, too, will come to pass.”

Who can refuse this face?โค๏ธ

Finishing Friday

Already? This week is a blur. A fuzzy blur.

I pulled out my knitting for the first time this week. So I can only claim a couple of rows in Chris’s socks this morning. So it’s not worth taking a picture. I still have a couple of inches of arch ribbing until the heel. The other two pair, I’ve done nothing.

I did a bit more on the sunset beach.

I did finish more books so over the next few days I’ll post reviews.

I didn’t even get around to playing piano today and the week has been full of short sessions. One day I only managed 15 minutes. Today, none.

I’d love to blame the trio of fuzz but honestly, I drank too much caffeine yesterday so spent my night in bed as a tree full of owls. I’ll try to make up for it over the weekend.

The real progress has been our fur babies.

Milo, oh, by the way, that’s the pup’s new name, finally did his business outside instead of the kitchen and hallway. He rarely barks at us as we come out of other rooms. It was so hard at first. He seemed never to recognize us.ย  And he was over-rambunctious around his black buddy, Shiloh, now he’s calming down.

Sammie is finally joining the rest of us. So it may not be long until he feels his confidence again.

Hopefully, we will all be able to be calm and sleep.
