It took hours to find a somewhat funny, funny. Cute, though. Thanks Sandra Boynton

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 31st and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “scratch an itch.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

The first thing this morning, before I saw the prompt, my husband came into the room grabbed this and started on an itch in the middle of his back. I should have snapped that picture, oh, well.

Our bingeing Saturday began with Jurassic Park 2 and 3. That gave me the chance to scratch my language itch. I did a few units of Latin. I like oft-watched shows while I learn. Who hasn’t memorized our dino shows?

Latin was my first language class of high school. Mrs. Young set us up with ‘A’s and if we turned in our homework every day we’d end with an ‘A’. She was so informative with the arts and sciences of ancient Rome

The text book from the class had interesting and fun stories to translate.

Recently, a word came up on Duolingo, ‘laetus’. I remembered the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper. Translating that story had been so much fun, with cartoons in my head.

A while ago I picked this textbook up at a second hand-store or used book store.

So far it isn’t as fun as my old textbook, but it is filling in cracks of information that Duo doesn’t supply.

We moved to our Will Trent binge.

Newer stuff means I work less intensely. I started on Italian as it isn’t as hard. It is fun for me. It scratches that linguaphile itch.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 30th, 2026 is “cinnamon.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Today’s prompt is brought to us by Tessa K. Thank you, Tessa K.! Please be sure to visit Tessa K.’s blog to read her posts and say hello. And follow her while you’re there if you’re not already.

Cinnamon was the name of a fuzzy pet. I couldn’t remember what mammal he was. I read the book when I was 5th or 6th grade, during my horse book binge. I mentioned it to my friend Y today. She remembered a book about a horse. My intent was to make this a book review. But I couldn’t find the book anywhere. There were a lot of books about cinnamon and pets by that name but the book I pictured I couldn’t find. Maybe I didn’t do proper search words.

So I have to switch methods.

Cinnamon is a spice that has health benefits. Here’s a couple of ways I use it.

A stick of Ceylon in my ginger and probiotic tea. No need for sugar. The ginger and cinnamon taste so yummy together.

Sorry for the lack of imagination. But the tea was lovely.

This post is part of Just Jot it January, and the prompt word, “prompt,” is brought to us by Cheryl. Check out her blog here!

Despite the personal challenges of this month that this Just Jot it January has been, if not fun, at least a challenge to write something when I wanted to shut down and crawl into bed. Instead, the prompts of the day made me write a bit and started journaling subjects to handwrite ideas or emotions that needed a place to express.

Thank you, Cheryl, for the prompt. And Linda for the prompts.

My heart aches for my adult children who lost their father today. We will miss him.

One-Liner Wednesday and Just Jot it January are Linda’s prompts.

This post is part of Just Jot it January, and the prompt word, “labyrinth,” is brought to us by Cale. Check out her blog here!

Life feels like a labyrinth right now. So much pulling on a person. But finding my way through means there are things to do. Lately, I’ve been prioritizing my physical and mental health.

Pianoing, knitting and the other hobbies are for my mental. Stationary bike and treadmill, on meandering around the house are for the physical.

Prayers come in in my doings, in my journaling when I find myself staring into space.

I don’t know where the entrance or exit are. But taking each turn should keep the scenery changing.

Just Jot it January

Eavesdropping is not the bad word. It is weird. How does it represent overhearing something? Instead it looks like the roof is falling.

But the sneaky spy gets two weird words. Surreptitiously eavesdropping. It’s like the surrealistic roof is falling over and over. What’s that got to do with overhearing from the bathroom stall?

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 26th, 2026 is “eavesdropper.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 25th, 2026 is “transmission.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Yay! Finally my word! What was I thinking? And with some very deep things happening in my family right now, I forgot why I chose this word.

The father of my children and husband of 20 years is at his end stage of life. So in his honor I will let you know which direction his thoughts about the word is. Yes, that important part of a car, he knew cars inside and out, back before computers took over.

But now I’m remembering deeper. The transmission of energy.

As parents we have tried to promote love energy to our children. Good times and bad we transmitted what we thought was right. Sometimes, we were human and fallible.

But watching my adult offspring, since their dad started his decline in health has made me proud of the people they have become.

They’ve become love transmitters, too. My heart is breaking for their father and them.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 24th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “take another look.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

When you are my age everything demands you take another look. Did I really put the keys in the fridge? What was the microwave instruction on this “easy” dinner? I pull them out of the trash many times, not just once.

Taking more than one look at different stages, decisions,  resentments in our lives occur.  ‘What could I have done differently or better?’

But second guessing colors the situation in today’s colors. And if you can’t remember the recipe and it’s right there on the box, and today’s business finds keys next to the butter, can we possibly second guess what happened decades ago?

We did our best then in the light of that day. That’s all we can do with today. We’re busy people with more worries than ever before. Forgive yourself so you can forgive others.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 23rd, 2026 is “altruism.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

As perfect as altruism sounds, and I do think it is a goal we should strive for caring for others above ourselves, I believe self care is equally important. Even though it seems best to help others into their oxygen masks, we are taught to put our own on first.

Our children and families do better when we take the time to keep ourselves healthy, physically and mentally.

But maybe the trick is to love others enough to start with healthy self-love.
